Web Site Traffic Increases After Terror Attacks
After the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, the staff of The Objectivist Center vigorously began working on ways to respond. Executive Director David Kelley's commentary "The Assault on Civilization" was posted to TOC's site on September 13, with many more commentaries soon following.
Since the posting of this commentary, the Web site has seen an increase of 65 percent over its normal daily traffic. Prior to the attacks, the center averaged about 1,200 user sessions per day, and rarely reached a high of 1,900. Since the attack, the average grew to just above 2,000 daily user sessions, with almost half a dozen days reaching 2,500 user sessions or more.
While this increase is due in part to the phenomenon of greater general Web traffic in the wake of the attacks, the center's Web site appears to be sustaining this additional traffic. We believe this is indicative of a greater interest in what Objectivism has to offer and a wider awareness of the principles the center advocates.
