From the Archives: More Against Government Health Care
The Road to Rationing
Ideas have consequences, and the philosophical errors in the idea of a "right to health care" have led America to the brink of complete government control and rationing of that area of our lives.
Freedom is a Crack

Many people say of America’s health care system that too many people “fall through the cracks.” This soundbite carries the hidden premises of socialized medicine. In fact, that “crack” is freedom and it should be preserved.

Government Medicine's Prejudice Against Innovation
Government intervention in medicine costs lives.
Is There a Right to Health Care?
David Kelley's classic article on health care, rights, and welfare.
The Inherent Individualism of Insurance
No matter how rational and focused we are, we remain vulnerable to unexpected events that can throw our lives into turmoil. We need a tool to help us mitigate the consequences of uncertainty in day-to-day life. Fortunately, we have such a tool: it's called insurance.
Doctors Shrug

In this March 2003 piece Ed Hudgins looks at physicians who go on strike against a political regime that facilitates nuisance lawsuits by the envious and that burdens them with regulations.

Sick Bureaucracy: a closer look at government health care

Reporter David Hogberg takes a revealing look at government health care and reform efforts in this TNI article, "Sick Bureaucracy." Hogberg uncovers the weaknesses of one of the latest fads among health care policy wonks, "P4P" or "Pay for Performance." He looks at efforts to "re-educate" "outlier" physicians, and reports on serious medical and financial crises created by large backlogs in Medicare reimbursements.

In the accompanying sidebar article, "Into the labyrinth" Hogberg gets up close and personal with the health care bureaucracy.

In a second sidebar article, "And $1.1 billion goes to..." Hogberg takes a closer look at "comparative effectiveness" research. His conclusion? Congress is "spending money now and kicking the tough choices down the road."
