About Fundraising Letters
Why do you get letters from TOC asking for money? The simplest answer is that it takes quite a bit of money to do all of the things that we do, and most of our money comes from donations. Our bi-annual fundraising letters are designed to update you on our activities and to serve as a reminder if you want to donate.
TOC's current supporters receive different letters than new prospects do. We send many of these prospect letters to mailing lists that might generate potential donations and long-term members. Most of these are mailing lists from Libertarian groups, and some of you are on these lists because you have donated to those groups or subscribed to their publications. This raises the prospect that an existing supporter could wind up on a mailing list of potential new prospects.
We hire a mailing house to handle the mailing because that is far less expensive than doing it within the center. The mailing house is supposed to double-check all addresses so that current supporters do not receive prospect letters and prospects do not receive multiple copies of the same letter. Unfortunately, due to the reprogramming of the mailing- house computer they didn't catch these multiple copies in many cases in our last mailing. We apologize for any inconvenience.
