The New Individualist Selected as Finalist for Folio Award

WASHINGTON , Sept. 18, 2007 - The New Individualist, a Washington-based monthly magazine of politics and culture, is pleased to announce its selection as an award-winning finalist in the prestigious Folio Magazine Editorial Awards (“Eddies”).The magazine was named in the category of “Best Single Article” in an association or nonprofit publication issued six or more times per year. As one of the three finalists in this category, The New Individualist will receive a bronze, silver, or gold award.

The selected article, “Up from Conservatism,” was written by Robert James Bidinotto, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, and appeared in the March 2007 issue of the magazine. The article critically surveys the ideas and personalities of the contemporary conservative movement, probing the reasons for the movement’s disarray and decline.

This year’s Folio finalists were selected by a panel of more than 100 judges—including respected editors, publishers, creative directors and webmasters—from a pool of roughly 3,000 entries submitted by magazine publishers spanning the globe. Other finalists include Newsweek, Forbes, Glamour, Foreign Policy, Money, and Harvard Business Review. Winners will be announced at an awards gala on September 23 at the Marriott Marquis in New York City.

The New Individualist is proud to be honored for editorial excellence by the distinguished Folio awards program,” said Bidinotto. “Our magazine challenges the cultural left and the cultural right with a philosophy of principled individualism. ‘Up from Conservatism’ embodies that unique perspective, and I’m gratified to receive this important industry recognition on behalf of the publication.”

The New Individualist presents articles, essays, interviews, as well as book and film reviews, focusing on current topics and controversies. It is published by The Atlas Society, a nonprofit research and advocacy organization headquartered in Washington, D.C.
