Yep, I said it and I don't know why nobody else did, unless my eyes stopped working for a moment when I checked this forum out. Ayn Rand is my role model, Dagny is a high ideal, Angelina is small in comparison. Quite small, tiny, itsy bitsy teensy weensy. She butchered the part of Lara Croft, and now she's at it again. But no, it isn't entirely her fault. Hollywood loves to give great characters to mediocre and talentless actors, it's a trend. Personally, if I could be so, I'd be offended, but it's nothing that hasn't happened before. It just sickens me that people who call themselves 'objectivists' support the deal.

fog and wind start to blow wildly into the hall
the guests are like: uh oh...sumbody gonna be startin sumppin!
suddenly a piercing yell of defiance splits the air like electrichypnofunk: HHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
windows and shiznitt start breaking everywhere and Hanks all like "damn I paid for that *** this better be good"
the beat kicks in and a silohetted figure appears in the window [I mean like cool as f*ckin hell u know what I mean ? that sinatra, astaire, "I don't give a *** I'm gonna grab my balls" attitude...know what I mean?
Dagnys all like ["damn, I'm gettin all...um....like "..well you know er...juicy?....she remembers his member that day in december I mean like they was seriouslly, over the top excessive if ya know what i mean.....like ddaayyuuummm!
anyway
all of a sudden a midrange tenor starts reiterating: [with a rather disconcerting and unlikely mixture of deep funk and liza midizney.....weird as helll....but somehow the *** is cool....don't ask why or how...it just is....it's just a fuckin axiom yo...A is Fukin A dig? dang fool...]
anyway:
Fransico kid starts singin:

Francisco kid is' like: "yo hank-" [but, you know, in that sweet way that MJ says things that confuses the hell out of everyone...know what I mean, like capn EO or "all my brothers inluding whats his name"] "yo hank man they tried to bend me over and turn me out but I wasn't havin it cause I know what it's all about
keep groovin yo stuff don't stop til ya get enough [another spin grabs IT 3..or 4...actually 17 damn times...in row....must be pissed off or somethin...
anyway much sillyness ensued....dancin, ghosts, more dancin, fedoras, some singin, people holding hands etc..[but cool sillyness...you know...its mj]
Til the end when Fransico Kid leads the merriment into the old furnace number 2 and deftly locks everyone in save for his homey hank and dagny [who is under a table on the floor somewhere back at da crib still hallucinating excessive erotic overload from years gone by....almost like she was trapped in a prince video]
anyway,
Fransico Kid is like: yo man [in that sweet voice though] they said you wasn't bad...if you ain't bad dey ain't nuffin...DEY AINT NUFFIN: and he pulls the switch frying taggart, congress and bushco to crisp: Hank is like: yo, where'd you learn how to work a furnace all expert like, your casual king of pop can do anything way that you have...?
Fransisco Kid smiles that mischevious "I'm 48 pretending to be 12" smile he does so well and says:
I'm shy......I snuck in a became your foreman two weeks ago
They hold each others gaze with that man 2 man love thang [no the other kind....]for just two beats longer than formal man 2 man love thang requires as if to say: this thriller is dangerous and bad cause blood on the dance floor makes you invincible in history.....
in the distance under a table somewhere dagny passes out...with a smile
fade to black
yes..it is very late...no...no crack....reading a lil too much of the....um....deep thinking round this place....[ahem]

Very funny.
Is it just me, or do many of Rand's male heroes have a thing for eachother? Sometimes their interactions are very homoerotic.

..all of rands protagonists have a thing for each other....as they should....My silliness intended no mockery...towards MJ, Rand, her works or the Original Poster..
The opposite really: just some surrealistic celebratory absurdisty inspired by seeing Mr Jackson as someones "coat of arms" on an "objectivist" site. The right thing in the right place [in conceptual terms]...and alas the wrong thing in the wrong place [in "real world" terms]....
Rand and her works are second 2 none.
...and Mr Jackson has earned more than being called wacko for trying to navigate an absurd culture with a skin disease and an overdeveloped desire to reward a culture with entertainment suffused with joyous awe that they are apparentlly unwilling to earn on their own....to say the least...
...not a fan of folks cribbin licks and not adding an ounce of original groove....
why no one else is troubled by this I don't know.

They stated their premises when the time came.....[kinda like Miss Rand]...didn't resort to the shorthand of an unearned title....

In all seriousness Miss Jolie is not the guilty party [except in taking roles that are poorly constructed]
NO ONE could have made those scripts work: The Lara Croft Movies sucked because the scripts sucked and the direction sucked....Miss Jolie was apparentlly ready and willing to give her all and was directed into a bad train wreck by folks who think you can make a story out of a video game without having...a story?
I am not particularly fond of her work but she appears to be earnest in her desire to do something purposeful with her craft....so keep in mind that she [and all actors/directors etc] are ALL at the mercy of PARASITIC MEDIOCRITIES that do everything they can to suck the last drop out of "content" without giving/creating values...
"hollywood" is nothing more or less than the folks in charge of the media machine....kinda like here....[anyone see what brilliant website design looks like?...why do all "objectivist" sites look like mediocre "this is what Ayn might have liked" sites with the standard deco and old masters jpegs here and there and generic out of the box design....
really annoying: objectivist sites "should" be the most innovative exciting portals on the net....they ain't....cause posers are fronting a groove they really don't understand....or care about.....
as an MJ fan you may have noticed that many MJ fansites are COOL, WELL DESIGNED and attempt at paying tribute in a manner consistent to their inspiration....and don't charge you to teach you how to enjoy MJ's groove...dig?
rip off sites are usually generic....this has been going on since the day miss rand opened her door to some "fans" and was rewarded with years of nonsense and garbage....as well losing her original goal: to be a novelist....she is/was not a teacher...and unfortunately paid heavy dues for making a fairly easy mistake to make: fans reflecting your pov back to you mixed with their "affection" can easily appear that they are "shining" when the light you are seeing is JUST your own....
anyway....thanx for bringing some MJ groove into an otherwise barren void....

It's not that they 'have a thing' for eatchother, but that they're all people that eatch other can understand and support without the illusion of favors or bribes. They have the same principles and the same Moral Code, so they can understand eatch other.

To say Angelina Jolie is not much like Dagny Taggart is an understatement. "In Touch" April 30, 2007 ran an article about her. Here are some of the things they wrote:
1) She has more than a dozen tatoos, everything from Asian letters to Latin sayings and one which bears the latitudes and longitudes of her children's birth places.
2) She is an admitted bisexual and boasts about having mulitple lovers. While married to Billy Bob Thornton (whose name she also has tatooed on her left shoulder) she told reporters on the red carpet at the MTV awards that they'd "had sex in the car on the way here."
3) She was a troubled teenager. She admits dabbling in drugs and cutting herself with knives. "It's that middle stage when you might not know what life means that is the dangerous time," she says.
Further, while married to Thornton she wore a vial of his blood around her neck on a string and she has been photographed amorously kissing her own brother in public.
Actors must change their true personality when playing a story character, and in this case that can only mean good things, however there is a limit to how much one can change one's personality and it is highly questionable that someone like this has the range to reach a character like Dagny Taggart.

Personally, I don't care who is playing Dagny. Though it is of importance to the movie that the actress can properly portray Miss Taggart, it takes a back seat to the writing and directing of the film. It's necessary that the script be a proper portrayal of the plot and message. Jolie's acting abilities, should they be found lacking, can be edited. That's the brilliance of film-making.

This is my first post on the forum, and I thought I'd take it back to the text. On page 585 of the 35th Anniversary Edition, we get a description of Laura Bradford, the ill-fated hollywood puppet of Kip Chalmers: "She was a movie actress who had forced her way from competent featured playter to incompetent star, not by means of sleeping with studio executives, but by taking the long-distance short cut of sleeping with bureaucrats. She talked economics, instead of glamor, for press interviews, in the beligerently righteous style of a third-rate tabloid; her economics consisted of the assertion that 'we've got to help the poor.'" I understand that Laura Bradford slept with bureaucrats in a more literal way than Angelina Jolie, but I think the comparison is worth making. Jolie isn't pushing for a shift to laizzes faire capitalism; she is adopting orphans from developing nations and a highly visible proponent of rectifying global inequity through altruism.
BUT
With the exception of the adoption scheme, I like what Jolie stands for, and I'll even admit it here in Rand Land. To defend Jolie, I would point out Dagny's desire to make Woodstock productive again in the chapter By Our Love. Dagny's plans would seem altruistic to the public if she put them into action. It is pretty easy to see Jolie is a complex global citizen who has outgrown purely financial motives and who simply sees great opportunities in the impoverished places where she puts her efforts.
I just want to provide this comparison as food for thought. Would Laura Bradford be able to play Dagny Taggart? Including Bradford in the film could create a pretty funny irony, although she is a very minor character who could be easily removed.
