Creating Objectivist Content for the New Media
Reply Quote
I have been working for years to create content for objectivist thinkers on the Internet. I have a 30 year background in broadcasting and use it to convey rational, realistic philosophy. My site has a weekly radio show, daily audio philosophy monologue, essays, think tv (video content) and other audio content.

The new media is exciting because now we can create and enjoy content that reflects our values, ideas and community. Through audio/video sites like www... and youtube we have an opportunity like never before. Now everyone can access the concepts we find so powerful and helpful. Communities and groups are bringing information to the masses in a new way, and so quickly that it is shocking executives in every branch of the entertainment industry. Few believe the entertainment world will look anything like it does now in just a few years.

I have no idea where this new media is going. Its final form will surely be vastly different from even the best guess. With that said, I think content will rule. Produce the content and work on the second track at the same time; keeping up to speed on the delivery/information opportunities that are rapidly being creating and evolving on the new info net. Cell phones are radios now, and computers are TVs... and who knows the next technological change lies ahead? It doesn't matter, because we are going to keep our eye on the content ball.

I try to keep my programming entertaining so it is enjoyable for everyone. New people can be brought to reason with entertaining media that fits into thier comfort zone. Concepts are expressed at street level style and are seamlessly woven to the entertainment. The focus is always to clearly communicate life enhancing concepts that are practical and useful while keeping the listener comfortable and entertained.

I think rational thinking, objectivism and intellectual honestly makes individuals much happier and could even make the world a better, safer place. Up to now philosophical concepts couldn't break through the configuration of media content/delivery systems. Now they can, and someone has to make this new intellectual/entertainment form by creating content. Every type of media from news to music shows need to be entertaining and someone has to make this content. I think this type of content presents a challenge because of the complexity of the ideas we are dealing with. It is difficult to explain some things quickly and in an engaging fashion but we have to find ways to do it.

Some day the dust will settle and those involved in disseminating content will invent a business model, or many that will work. However, this future of popular, objectivist content being enjoyed by the public at large depends first on content. And the future will be short lived if there is not an equally important business model.

The people can easily find content on youtube now and many folks have done great work by posting objectivist and rational content. I'm thrilled to see content making its long-overdue debut to the masses. The raw content is fantastic, the presentation is not entertaining. The presentation is outside the comfort zone of most people and the concepts, although fantastic, lack street level connectivity to the people. Therefore, we fail to speak to so it is practical, useful and personally powerful.

What do you think?
