Geeked [8-|] Title Meaning
Reply Quote
Hey everyone, I need help finding a passage and I'd appreciate any help. There's some point in the book when they talk about Atlas. Someone poses the question [paraphrased]: If you met Atlas, would you ask him to hold up the weight of the world, or would you tell him to shrug?

I was talking to one of my friends about the meaning of the title, and I wanted to quote the actual passage but I can't seem to find it.

"If you saw Atlas, the giant who holds the world on his shoulders, if you saw that he stood, blood running down his chest, his knees buckling, his arms trembling but still trying to hold the world aloft with he last of his strength, and the greater his effort the heavier the world bore down upon his shoulders--what would you tell him to do?"

"I...don't know. What...could he do? What would you tell him?"

"To shrug."

Where is this in the story?

Is it possible to purchase a legal and validated electronic version of this?  1100 pages is a big haystack.

Hi

I understand a CD-ROM of Rand's key works, and some other stuff, is available at http://www.objectivism.net/order_cdrom.htm.

I haven't tried it myself, and so can't speak for it, but it sounds as if it might be pretty much what you're after.

Best regards

Adrian

That would be part one on page 422, for any future reference!
