Shouldn't this film be written in the present era?

Ayn Rand wrote this novel during her era to convey her message to the people of her time. If this movie was is written in her time and not the present won't that take away from the message? Leaving the could've-should've?

I sure hope not...
Who could stand the characters all yakking away at each other on their stupid cellphones!
Atlas Shrugged should rightfully be a "period piece" true to the time when railroads and steel were the backbone of America.
